Step by step Crochet Owl With Pineapple

Materials:

  1. Medium weight yarn (number 4) - Two strands
  2. 5.5 mm crochet hook
  3. Beads for the beak and eyes
  4. Stick (for support)
  5. Hot glue
  6. Yarn needle

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • tr = treble crochet
  • dtr = double treble crochet

Pattern:

Head:

  1. Magic Ring:
    • Start with a magic ring (alternatively, ch 4 and sl st into the first ch to form a ring).
    • Chain 1.
  2. Round 1:
    • Work 12 dc into the magic ring. Join with a sl st to the first dc. (12 dc)
  3. Round 2:
    • Ch 1, work 2 dc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first dc. (24 dc)
  4. Round 3:
    • Ch 1, *1 dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to the first dc. (36 dc)
  5. Round 4:
    • Ch 1, *1 dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to the first dc. (48 dc)

Pineapple Stitch Body:

  1. Row 1:
    • Find the space between the first 2 dc. Sl st into that space. Ch 3, 2 dc into the same space, ch 2, 3 dc into the same space.
    • Ch 3, skip 4 sts, dc in next st, dc in next 6 sts, ch 3, skip 4 sts, 3 dc in next space, ch 2, 3 dc in same space.
  2. Row 2:
    • Turn, sl st to first ch 2 space, Ch 3, 2 dc in ch 2 space, ch 2, 3 dc in same space.
    • Ch 2, *dc, ch 1, repeat from * across 7 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in ch 2 space, ch 2, 3 dc in same space.
  3. Row 3:
    • Repeat previous rows with variations in chaining and dc, gradually decreasing the number of initial "ch 4 spaces", until:
    • Row 6: Has 3 ch 4 spaces. Decrease by 1 on each side every row until:
    • Row 9: Has 1 ch 4 space left.
  4. Row 10:
    • Skip to the last remaining ch 2 space directly.

Eyes (Make 2):

  1. Round 1:
    • Start with a slip knot, ch 7, sl st into the first ch to form a ring.
    • Ch 1, work 25 sc into the ring. (25 sc)
  2. Round 2:
    • Work 1 sc in each st around, using back loops only. (25 sc)
  3. Round 3:
    • *Ch 3, sl st in next st; repeat from * around. (25 ch 3 spaces)
    • Fasten off.

Top of the Head:

  1. Row 1:
    • Start with a slip knot, ch 16.
    • From the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in each ch. (15 sc)
  2. Row 2:
    • Ch 1, 1 sc in front loop of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in front loop of next 2 sts, 1 dc in front loop of next 2 sts, 1 tr in next st, 3 dtr in next st, 1 tr in front loop of next st, 1 dc in front loop of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in front loop of next 2 sts, 1 sc in front loop of last 2 sts. Turn. (15 sts)
  3. Row 3:
    • Ch 3, work 2 dc in back loop of first/last st, 7 dc backwards loop, 5 dc in middle st, 7 dc in back loops on opposite side, 2 dc in back loop last st. Turn.
  4. Row 4:
    • Work 1 sc around each post, 5 sc in middle post.

Assembly:

  1. Align the top of the head and glue on.
  2. Glue the eyes, attach beads for the beak.
  3. Add stick support too optional.
  4. Cut 14-inch yarn for tassels, align on ch-2 spaces of bottom edge.

Final Touch:

  1. Weave in and secure all ends.
  2. Create loops for hanging by chaining 18 between first and last single crochet.
