Crochet The Plush Chonky Dino

A Small Amigurumi Plush Chonky Dino

Materials Needed:

  • Velvet yarn (Body Color)
    • Velvet yarn (Spike Color)
    • Black worsted weight yarn
    • 2 8mm safety eyes
    • 5mm crochet hook
    • Scissors
    • Tapestry needle
    • Stitch marker
    • Stuffing

Step by step Instructions

Body:

  1. Magic Ring: Create a magic ring.
  2. Round 1: 8 single crochet (sc) in the magic ring. Tighten ring.
  3. Round 2: 2 single crochet in each stitch around (16 sc). Use stitch marker at the first stitch.
  4. Round 3: (1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the next) repeat around (24 sc).
  5. Rounds 4-5: 1 sc in each stitch around (24 sc per round).

Step 1

Adding Bobbles:

  1. Round 6:
    • 5 sc,
    • 3-stitch bobble (yarn over, pull up yarn, yarn over, pull through 2 loops x3, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops),
    • 6 sc,
    • 3-stitch bobble,
    • 11 sc.
  2. Rounds 7-8: 1 sc in each stitch around (24 sc per round).

Creating Feet:

  1. Round 9:
    • 5 sc,
    • 4-stitch bobble,
    • 6 sc,
    • 4-stitch bobble,
    • 11 sc.

Step 2

Closing the Body:

  1. Round 10:
    • Decrease (Insert into next 2 stitches, yarn over, pull through both, yarn over, pull through all loops) 12 times.
    • Slip stitch, cut the yarn leaving a long tail for sewing, pull through, and tighten.

Adding Eyes:

  1. Place eyes between rounds 4 and 5, right above the arms. Secure with backs.

Step 3

Stuffing and Closing:

  1. Stuff the body. Use the tail to sew the hole closed by weaving through the back loops only of each stitch, pull to tighten, secure and hide the tail within the body.

Creating the Mouth:

  1. Use black worsted weight yarn to embroider the mouth between the eyes, tying and securing the ends by hiding them within the body.

Step 4

Making the Spikes:

  1. Chain 11 using spike color:
    • In second chain from hook: (1 sc, 1 half double crochet (hdc), 1 sc) - "Spike Cluster"
    • Next stitch: Slip Stitch (sl st)
    • Repeat until the end, ending with "Spike Cluster."
    • Chain 1, cut a long tail for sewing.

Attaching Spikes:

  1. Sew spikes starting from the second row down the back, ensuring alignment with the eyes. Sew until the end, secure and hide tails within the body.

And you’re done! You've made the cute chunky amigurumi dino.

Finishing Up:

  • Hide all remaining yarn tails inside the body and trim off any excess.
